September was a busy month! Coach David from Duleek/Bellewstown GFC came to visit each week. Both girls and boys teams were back in action for football where we had our first ever all girls team enter into the Cumann na mBunscoil competition! There was lots of learning in the classroom too. A particular highlight was when we read The Dot and created artworks inspired by this special book. OctoberWe celebrated the feast day of St. Therese. It was too wet and windy to go to the church so Fr. Mark brought mass to us. Teddy and Harry's dad came to visit with his birds of prey. It was so interesting to learn about these special birds and their many talents. We visited Navan library to meet with Marita Conlon McKenna, the author of the novel we read, "Under the Hawthorn Tree". Maths Week 2022What a week we had! Lots of work done around the topic of data, an extremely exciting maths trail with 3rd & 4th class, we played number games with 1st & 2nd class and we topped it all off with a bumper maths quiz on the Friday. Thank you to all the pupils, parents and grandparents that supported us. We held a raffle on the day as we wanted to make a contribution to the children's charity, UNICEF. We were particularly struck by the hunger crisis in Somalia at the moment. We saw lots of similarities between their situation and that of Irish people's during The Great Irish Famine. Through the generosity of the school community, we raised a whopping €400 for this worthy charity.

In literacy, we have been working on the genre, recount. The children had to write a piece on an outstanding animal and present it to their class. We focussed on the skills of a good speaker - speak clearly and slowly, use expression in your voice, make eye contact with your audience and not to over rely on your written work.
We painted the school green and gold in honour of the Meath ladies football team who won the All Ireland Ladies Senior Football final against Dublin in Croke Park. Well done girls, but a special congratulations to local Duleek/Bellewstown heroes, Monica, Kate and Orla!
